I just finished watching When The Levees Broke: A Requiem in 4 Acts by Spike Lee. It was incredible. Spike Lee captures 8 hours of unbelievable footage surrounding hurricane Katrina. It was riveting. I couldn’t stop watching.
I don’t even think I can capture my feelings but I wanted to share a report given by the National Weather Service the night before the hurricane hit. When our officials said that no one could have predicted the destruction, they must’ve missed this one:

…DEVASTATING DAMAGE EXPECTED…
HURRICANE KATRINA…A MOST POWERFUL
HURRICANE WITH UNPRECEDENTED
STRENGTH…RIVALING THE INTENSITY
OF HURRICANE CAMILLE OF 1969.
MOST OF THE AREA WILL BE UNINHABITABLE
FOR WEEKS…PERHAPS LONGER.
AT LEAST HALF OF WELL CONSTRUCTED HOMES
WILL HAVE ROOF AND WALL FAILURE. ALL GABLED
ROOFS WILL FAIL…ALL WOOD FRAMED LOW RISING
APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL BE DESTROYED…ALL
WINDOWS WILL BE BLOWN OUT.
THE VAST MAJORITY…OF TREES WILL BE SNAPPED
OR UPROOTED. ONLY THE HEARTIEST WILL REMAIN
STANDING…BUT BE TOTALLY DEFOLIATED.
POWER OUTAGES WILL LAST FOR WEEKS…AS MOST
POWER POLES WILL BE DOWN
AND TRANSFORMERS DESTROYED. WATER
SHORTAGES WILL MAKE HUMAN SUFFERING
INCREDIBLE BY MODERN STANDARDS.
